They're a rare sight on the roads now,  but if someone had one would it need seat belts fitted in the sidecar?

no

Optional for sidecars but helmets must be worn.

I did not enjoy sitting in a sidecar, horrible experience

oddly you don't have to wear a helmet on a trike

It would make racing hard wearing a seatbelt

Not on a trike, eh ?

What if you fix stabilisers to your motorbike ?

I once went out for the day with a pal & his family. Dad & him on the bike, mum & me in the sidecar. I think it was a BSA Gold Star. My only sidecar experience. 1958-ish

In the days when not all families had a car, my dad had a motor bike and sidecar.
Mum rode pillion with nothing more than a headscarf for protection, and we three kids were in the sidecar. Myself and younger sister sat on the seat, and our baby brother on our laps.

Cant think of anything worse than sitting in a chair.

Horrible experience.

We used to make our own back in the day. PC Traffic took a dim view after a hot pursuit in his 2.5PI but we parted on good terms.

Construction and Use? Pah! 🏍😄

If seat belts are fitted they must be used and will be checked at the MOT test."
