He couldn't have known when the election would come, but this was a business that should have been wrapped up months ago.

Does he come out of this looking like a bit of a ditherer?

It's nonsense to suggest that Ms Abbot was being pushed out because she is black. She was pushed out because she is a hardline Left Winger who will give Starmer grief every day with a 'y' in it.The notion of deflecting her was bound to fail.If it had gone through, Ms Abbot would have stood as an Independent and romped home, to give Labour huge headaches all over...

Diane Abbotts is about as welcome in Labour's parliamentary party as a smelly fart in a diving suit.
She should stand as an independent like Corbyn, and be free to state here objections to the atrocities that the State of Isreal is inflicting on the innocent civilians in Gaza, without risking the censor of the Jewish lobby on Labour's NEC.

I hope that is what she does.

He is constantly undermined by his deputy, Angela Rayner.

One day their private battles are going to be very public.

Inside the tent peeing out, or outside peeing in.

It's hard to know what would be for the best.

sandyRoe,

If Labour get a healthy majority then they are home and dry.
If it is a hung parliament and Labour are a few votes short of 326, they might need, Corbyn, Abbott, Greens and god forbid SNP and Limpdongs to form a Government.

It's been said she has had 'health issues' recently.  She certainly looked unwell at the rally outside Hackney Town Hall the other day: her hand holding the microphone was shaking and her speech slow and very hesitant.  Perhaps it's time she retired.

sounds like an ideal candidate for the House of Lords.

I know that won't happen.😀

Old_Geezer,

Her running days, like mine, are long past.  She can still stand and secure a seat on the back benches.

If Labour are the largest party in an hung parliament, Starmer might need Corbyn's and Abbotts votes. That would be funny 😀

that assumes that the Corbytrouserpress and the Abbottess actually make it past the post to take their seats. Both of them are way out of touch of reality....unless they think answering to Putain directly or indirectly is the way forward for this hallowed land.

In Diane's constituency a coat on a stick sporting a Labour rosette would walk it.

Jeremy has a great personal support in his constituency.

Time will tell.

'His Majesty's Republic of Islington' re the Corpsboot. Come back Michael O'Halloran, all is forgiven - but seriously if Weird Farmer was to put up a credible strong candidate, they could walk it.

Have they claimed that they are a 'nuclear free zone' yet as Lambeth did?

// Both of them are way out of touch of reality. //

As are Labour on Gaza. In some constituencies the Labour stance on Gaza is electoral suicide - As Rochdale proved.

Corbyn has great personal support in his constituency but so, I think has Diane in hers.  Should she stand as an independent I think Labour could well have a problem.

Ms Abbot is hugely supported in her constituency. If she ran as an independent, she would walk in, and be even more of a pain than she would be in the Labour Party, where at least Starma could exercise a degree of control over what she says and does.

// Should she stand as an independent I think Labour could well have a problem. //

She does not have to make a decision and tell them until next Friday. She could leave them dangling like they have made her dangle for 15 months 😀.

She has been loyal to the Labour Party for decades.  I don't like her or her politics but if she isn't selected, in her shoes I would stand as an Independent and take the seat.  That said, if Labour are successful in the next election I don't think it will be long before it reverts to type and the looney left take control.

I agree on that, naomi. Here comes those democratically elected bodies, so all-embracing of our population, the Unions.
