Why are they so bland and tasteless?

They didn't used to be and you pay a premium for them in the shops.

I don't think the weather has helped

I agree - not a patch on what they used to be.

I always remember them having a distinct taste and always boiled nicely (didn't flour). Most years we are tempted to try some and are always disappointed. We even had them in a Jersey hotl one year and they were no different.

Very disappointing, but that's just modern life innit.

I suspect that it's old age, and deterioration of the taste-buds. We oldies can't expect to experience food as intensely as youngsters do.

Werent they once fertilised with sea-weed.Not any more,so thats maybe one of the reasons.

//I suspect that it's old age,//

It's not - it's the spuds!

Stop eating old age spuds then.

Many of the farmers still use seaweed

They used to be sold with the soil still on them and the skin would come of with you fingernail and they tasted divine. They definitely aren't the same anymore. I haven't sen any Cyprus new potatoes in the shops for ages I used to really like their flavour

Bland and awful now, and have been for years so nothing to do with the weather.

Dont buy them anymore, not worth the premium.

Thanks for the replies. So, it's not just me that thinks they are tasteless. I should be harvesting my own in a couple of weeks 😁.

I seemed to notice the lack of flavour in Jersey potatoes about six years ago when they were so tasty with mint.

Margo/  Got some large Cyprus potatoes from local farm shop which sells them when their own are finished.  Great for chips.

A good alternative if you like a waxy salad type is Vivaldi,

We've had some nice Jerseys from Waitrose this week...but (even better!) are Ratte.

Hazlinny- I used to get mine from the local market which has unfortunately closed😿 The large ones make great jacket potatoes too
