Formatting A New Flash Drive

I am buying a 32g Flash Drive to back some up  some of photos which are on my p.c.

Do I need to "format"  this 32gb Flash Drive and if so, how do I do this ?

Every USB flash drive that I've ever bought has been pre-formatted to work with Windows PCs.

Possibly; I have a 2TB external drive and occasionally back-up everything on my laptop/PC – not that I’ve got anything stored that if lost would worry me too much.

You can buy one for around £60, which could prove a good investment.

Depends on what type of format you want, and what type it comes formatted as. If desired, you'd format it much the same as you would any disk. If recognised by the PC click on it to bring up the menu, then select format. It may pay you to disk check it first, especially if bought from a Chinese source company.

Have you considered using Cloud tech (paid for) to store things you want backed up?

A flash drive is not much use as a backup unless you store it off-site.

I have O365 account a NAS drive(RAID 1) and off-site.  Cant be too careful.

OG has got it - left click on the icon that recognises it and click "format" - you shouldnt need to

My 2TB external drive is stored in a metal safe, if my house was to burn down the heat would likely destroy the data on the drive (which would be the least of my worries).

When it comes to backups, eliminating unknowns and uncertainty is essential. If the manufacturer's documentation leaves you uncertain, use a formatting program you consider reliable.
