My smoke detector is chirping and driving me nuts or more nuts than normal.

I have found a temporary fix - foam ear plugs.  Is there a magic way to keep them in my ears?  They keep falling out.

The batteries are getting changed tomorrow.

Thank you😁

Calmck - that was my first idea, however I would probably strangle myself.  I can use this as Plan B.

Chris, I did that and they seem to be staying in.

An attempt was made earlier to silence the noise, it didn't work.

Can't you take the batteries out now?

They're usually too high up to reach Barry, I couldn't reach ours and would need someone to do it for me.

Barry, I would if I could, but I can't.  A friend tried opening it earlier but he couldn't.

The ear plugs worked - I didn't hear the beeping during the night.

New batteries have been inserted and I am £75 poorer.

Bless you Wolf, at least you'll be able to have a decent sleep and not not feel cumbersome with earplugs etc...

£75 quid is a big loss though for most pockets... at least you're safe.

Arksided, thanks for you nice words.

When my cat, Frankie, developed Asthma I used to dread hearing any potential coughing or wheezing sound.  I felt continually on edge waiting and then in a blind panic when he had an attack.  This felt similar.

I manage to get through life coping with all the big stuff but a small problem can flip me over the edge.

I think that this post must be one of the few without any sign of childish bickering.  I hope it calms down after the election.
