Sandy, I do remember Dick Barton. We all crowded round the radio for that, but the one for me was Journey Into Space, with Captain Jet Morgan. Not to be missed! My parents are both 90, and can remember when electricity first started being installed in people's homes.

And they rarely watch tv at all, they basically only own a tele to watch the snooker, and Queens speech, well sorry Kings now.

It makes you think what it must be like to grow up in an age where you remember all these things in their infency, that their lives must have been enriched in other ways that they simply don't miss tv.

It's as if the more things we have like smartphones etc, we are no happier or content than like my parents who didn't have any of those things.

They will say when we have these conversations that they had quality family time, and in the evenings would sit in front of the fire playing cards, they made their own entertainment.

Can you imagine that going on today?

I never had Sky when I was growing up. Poor me!
What a daft thing for Sunak to say. He really wants to lose this election, doesn't he?

By the way, what is a 'gas mantle'?

CloverJo, this is a gas mantle. It's a mesh, fitted to the end of the gas feed. It glows brightly when the gas supply is turned on and a flame applied.
