Will the mild mannered Labour leader success where Corbyn failed? Has our democracy ever faced a greater threat?

If Labour are elected, I don't just want change - I want radical change. Re-nationalise all the utilities without compensation. They've ripped us off enough since privatisation, especially the water companies, who don't have to produce anything but outrageous profits. The NHS, and housing should also be radically changed. But so far in this campaign I...

....I mean water of course not ALL the utilities.

Youngmafbog,

I've read that some people are paying more in rent than they would if they had a mortgage on a similar property.  Their problem is they can't find the deposit.

The government banks, and building societies, might want to look at that.

More council houses need to be built.  They're an investment in our people and the future.

Thanks Sandy,

//  I've read that some people are paying more in rent than they would if they had a mortgage on a similar property.  Their problem is they can't find the deposit. //

Well yes there is more to running a house than the Mortgage though isn't there?  When in rented if your boiler breaks the Landlord has to pay, if a Mortgage you pay so I'm not sure that the two payments are comparable.

As for the deposit, yes that is a problem (bit always has been).  Is it the whole problem though, what is now happening to many is they want their cake and eat it.  You cant have the latest phone, car, hols abroad etc and save a deposit.  It has been like this forever, most of us have to go without to save.  And with things like cars that actually reduces the amount you can borrow (same with o/s Credit cards).  Perhaps more education is required on how the system works in schools?

//The government banks, and building societies, might want to look at that.//

Nothing to do with Banks, the Government yes but not the rent vs Mrtgage for the reason above

//More council houses need to be built.  They're an investment in our people and the future.//

I couldnt agree more, one big thing that has always irked me when selling off Council properties (that I agree with) is that councils were not forced to use the money to build more.

What I would like to see is firstly Councils providing rental homes (but at a reasonable rental not on the cheap) and the Government offering lifetime loans.  This will need a bit of thought and we need to ensure it doesnt inflate the house prices so a building proigram needs to be implented alognside it to balance.

I also thing we need to put a stop to air-B&B in residential areas.  Residential areas are for living in not holidaying in and it drives the price of the reduced stock up.

It's always been tough to find a deposit to get a mortgage. We all had to save and sacrifice. YMB is correct, these days they want it all. They'll happily pay a bag of sand for dog, holidays, expensive jam jar on a lease etc then wonder why they can't save up. Yes it's hard, it's meant to be, lenders want to see that you can manage money.

This is a radical plane for the housing market;

Knock a nought off the price of every property and the cost of renting.

£750 a month becomes £75

£100,000 house becomes a £10,000 house.

^^^ plan ^^^ not plane!

Labour haven't got a great record when it comes to building council houses.

//Re-nationalise all the utilities without compensation.//

god the crazy gang are queueing to enter No 10. Currently unlawful ( expropriation)

£100,000 house becomes a £10,000 house.

and so there are no houses on  the market.

Is there a rule  that you have to turn  your brayne off before posting on this thread?

Before you go to buy some Saxa, have a look at the full article that Mr Hitchens is referring to:

@18.50.I take it you were on sarcastic mode yesterday 10CS,some of the stuff you are coming out with is totally risible. You been drinking?

We clearly need change but not towards more 'woke', more citizen control, and high debt/taxation for promises that prove unfundable. We need radical change towards improving the nation in preference to dancing to the tune of foreign and global powers. Sealing the borders where possible/practical would be a great start in order to stop things getting worse each day.

No, I don't drink a lot. I spill most of it! I told you I want it to be radical. If it's unlawful, then change the law. Make it work.
