I am really enjoying 'Enterprise' and 'Voyager', I didn't catch them first time round.

I wonder if a decision was made, in the interests of cost and convenience, that the vast majority of aliens met by both crews would all be humanoid, with minor variations of facial prosthetics, and all speaking fluent American?

If I may, mushroom - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0708789/?ref_=ttep_ep20Also - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)Interestingly, that episode is referenced in the final season (5) of Star Trek: Discovery, which I binged - & thoroughly enjoyed - last week.

Even so they had lavish budgets compared to TOS! In some scenes you can see the corridors wobble as they run down them!

Universal translator and evolution.

It's not rocket science, apart from the rockety bits.

// aliens met by both crews would all be humanoid //

wasn't this explained in a TNG episode - "The Chase", possibly?

Not seen it, which series is that?

had to look it up. "The Chase", S06E20, cumulatively episode #146.

Thanks LIK - a clever story to explain away the massive  make-up and prop budget savings in making almost all aliens humanoid.

That's wonderful.
