Having overtaken the Conservatives in the polls, and now running second to Labour, should Nigel Farage be included in the BBC Leaders' Debate?  He thinks so.

I tend to agree that he should be. I disagree with him just about every time he opens his trap, but he should be given the same platform as the others.

What others?

He *is* given the same platform as the others - just not in the head to head leaders debate. He was in the debate amongst the smaller parties last week. That's where he ought to be - until Reform win a substantial number of seats to be recognised as HM's Opposition. You don't get that on the basis of a single poll.

What you wrote at 12.49 doesn't square with facts. The "legacy media" would include right wing publications such as The Express, Mail, Spectator and Telegraph - all of which given Reform the time of day. Also, it's wrong to confuse your political views with the views of the wider public.

We don't actually 'learn' anything from these so-called debates so why do we bother with them at all. They're akin to willy-waving contests but instead of the biggest willy winning the day, it's usually the one who can shout the loudest and ignore the rules the more often.

Farage is leader to precisely 1 MP (and that was a turncoat from another party) so that does not warrant a place on the debate. Sunak will be very pleased that Farage is disallowed.

the greens also have 1 MP.

//The Express, Mail, Spectator and Telegraph //

I am not forced to subscribe to any of those publications or outlets. The one outlet that I am forced to sponsor is deciding who gets a platform and more importantly who doesn't. It is only one small step away from direct censorship. My views on the matter have nothing whatsoever about my political views or affiliations but are aligned to my insticts regarding democracy and the manipulation or adultreration of it. Being denied the opportunity to hear someone is only the reverse of being forced to listen to someone. At this juncture it is a certain fact that Farage and Reform have more public support that either the Libs, Greens, or SNP in the in UK as a whole. The National Broadcaster that we all fund should acknowedge this in any debate that is in the intrerests of the public as a whole. As I pointed out   ...   You are not forced to listen, neither should anyone be forced not to, or denied the right to, listen.

"The one outlet that I am forced to sponsor is deciding who gets a platform and more importantly who doesn't."

The BBC include Reform in the head to head election debate?

This was the debate amongst the seven smaller parties. The leaders' debate was between Sunak and Starmer. The BBC also publish details of all main party's manifestos on its websites plus news items relative to all parties.

With all that in mind, can you explain what you mean by:

"Being denied the opportunity to hear someone is only the reverse of being forced to listen to someone."

Are you saying that the BBC are deliberately censoring Reform, or something else?

And...

"At this juncture it is a certain fact that Farage and Reform have more public support that either the Libs, Greens, or SNP in the in UK as a whole. The National Broadcaster that we all fund should acknowedge this in any debate that is in the intrerests of the public as a whole. "

Again - it should be pointed out that Reform may be polling well but that doesn't mean they should immediately usurp the Conservaties. They are represented in the smaller parties debate and the BBC are 100% not censoring them...

...at all.

can we please clarify which tv programme mr farage feels entitled to be on? the only one upcoming on the BBC is the 26 june special called the "prime ministerial" debate, i.e. it is between the sitting PM and the only person who might possibly replace him.

what reason does Farage have to be on such a show? he was on two multiparty debates, one on the BBC and one on ITV. he also has his own personal show on GB news. why should he get more than that?

There's no way Cardboard Blair would agree to debate Farage.

Back o' the net Untitled!!!!

Yes.

Surely Farage has as much chance as being next PM as the encumbent?

It is impossible for Farage to become PM.

I'll try a third time!

The link in the OP refers to the, quote, "BBC leaders’ debate next week", which is the one that is just between Sunak and Starmer, the PM and the Leader of the Opposition. No Greens, no Lib Dems, no nationalists, just the two possible next PMs. Farage makes a pathetic joke, saying, quote, "We are the challengers to Labour. We are now the real opposition." It's not even newsworthy.

I have a feeling that the general public may have a say in who the next leader of the opposition is, despite the obvious 77th Brigade(1st column) gerrymandering.

In fact after the election Sunak will not be the leader of the opposition even if the Conservatives scrape 2nd place. He will be off to California one way or another. It will be a race (like the Porridge boxing match) between whether he can resign before he is sacked or whether they can sack him before he resigns.

It was only in the YouGov poll that NF beat the Tories into 2nd place.
