When anything goes wrong and very wrong - it cracks me up when they receive an "apology".

What the hell does an apology do - absolutely find it a vile word to cover so much heartache

I'm not very good at accepting an apology if it's something which has really hurt me. It's different with my family, and a few really good friends, but if people don't behave towards me as I would towards them, then they're definitely off my Christmas card list.

Im too old to have people who either hurt me or whose company I don't really enjoy, in my life.

I do naomi, and have. Not often or frequently, but two spring to mind, and it's a relief not to have them in my life anymore.
Same with invitations, unless we really want to go, we don't. We're never rude, but are very firm and polite.

Are you referring to the recent Jeremy Vine libel case?  I think that apology was appropriate.  I'm not a fan of Vine's but to falsely label him a paedophile and give out his home address to millions of people is wrong.  An apology was necessary to convince Joey Barton's followers that there was no truth in his allegations.

It also irritates me when someone tells me that they are sorry that I'm upset rather than saying that they are sorry for what they have done to upset me.

Yes, Barry - the important word is 'sincere'.  There are many instances of glib 'necessary' forms of words.
