Would the Spanish authorities have access to such sophisticated equipment?

Sandy, they have had drones and planes up.

I doubt that we can come up with anything they haven't tried.

I haven't read the whole post but I'm clearly missing part of this story. Ok, so he was at this nightclub with his friends and from what I gather he decided to leave with 2 guys  that he met that night and go back to their rented airBNB apartment? Is that right? First of all why?? Why did his friends not go with him? And secondly how did they know the address to go looking for him the next morning? Most people when they are half drunk and going off to a strange address don't even know it, let alone give it to someone else.
