... practitioner open the pack of needles to be used in front of you?

I Know it's highly unlikely they'd use the same needles twice but you can't be too careful.

When I went, I did see the packs of needles being opened.

The only time I had acupuncture was from my GP, who has, alas retired. She'd done a course etc..  She explained that she hadn't a lcue  as to how it worked, but it did in about 50% of patients.  I was one of the fortunate 50%.

I don't recall seeing her open a packet of needles, but she was my medic so I assume she did.  I wish one of the young replacements had such an open mind.

You won't be led through a beaded-curtain by a delicate oriental temptress, into a smoky, perfumed boudoir and invited to lay on a velvet chaise-long, Sandy.

Acupuncturists are utterly professional and work in proper clinical-standard rooms. Your needles will not have been used on anyone before you.....nor will they be used on anyone afterwards.

I am a great advocate for acupuncture. It worked its' magic on me.

It is also possible that any needles used could have been sterilised in an autoclave so a "new packet" may not be strictly necessary.  (I have no idea about this, but I do know that body piercers use autoclaves)

Barmaid, when in France I used to help OH's nurses by removing sterilised instruments from the autoclave to save them time. As you say, it's a safe alternative.

Yeah it is good practice - but I would not have thought mandatory. And in the good old days of pre 1948 and re-usable needles - the GP did just that, in front of the patient - - - even for home visits !

( yeah yeah I know half of AB will ask -" where he  get dat from den? where?" Me aud dad, 1945 who was brought up to date with "modern practice" by his new partner).

I saw a physio this morning and she said the pain in my hip was caused by my back.  I don't know if acupuncture could help with slipped discs and the discomfort that accompanies them.

Back to square one, I think.

ach give it a go  Sandy - you are getting a new cat and a new back - hopefully

Question Author

I know I'm getting the cat.  The new back would be an added bonus.

it would be but let me tell you son - I have a bad back too - in fact there is nothing but pain throughout the body but sure I'm brave and have to suffer.  I do moan a bit tho

I have to get a tooth out next week a back molar and I am not looking forward to it but then after I'm going for the acupunctre - no wonder I don't have much money left between me and Maxie (dog walker)   but sure I can't take it with me
