The economy is flatlining as far as I can see, read and am told.  We can't afford to give ourselves extra days off.  Starmer is quite right to balk at this idea.

Why on Earth should there be a Bank Holiday? It's a bit mad. The country can't afford it. Hospitality and leisure businesses will have to pay their staff 'time and a half'. Hospitals still have to be staffed. Small businesses will find that difficult. Not everyone is a massive football fan. 

I'm glad that SKS has put that idea quietly away.
