TBF I agree with Sir Beer, we should not be encouraging more saucepans. The 2 child cap is fine.

For someone brought up in poverty (and now claiming to be a millionaire), it seems a bit cruel to accept others suffering such poverty, when you have personal experience of the hardship/shame of such an upbringing.

Question Author

Have a day off hymie, the state supports 2 kids that's enough.

The rump of the old Corbynistas attempting to cause trouble.

It's to be expected.

Not too much hardship/shame that you wouldn’t want others to suffer the same then.

Question Author

who's talking about hardship? Just have 2 kids, ain't rocket is it? Whys should the state pay for the unlimited production of the baby farms?

So you’ve forgotten all about the hardship/shame of growing up in poverty?

Question Author

Of course not, why are you deliberately missing the point? I'm not talking about my up bringing I'm talking about the calls on the nation's finances today. If you'd like to discuss my upbringing, start another thread and I'll indulge it with you. The country cannot afford to fund unlimited kids. For once Labour is being sensible.

So you’re quite happy for the cycle of poverty in our childrens’ upbringing to continue?

A 1 child cap would be fine.

Hymie at 23 :41. Is that what you say to the parents who have 3 or more  children they can't afford to support?

McDonnell shouldn't be in Labour at all - he's an out & out communist. Put him with Corbyn.

If people wish to have children amongst their first consideration should be whether they can afford them. 57% of council tax goes towards education so again other people are again funding childrens education many of whom dont have children.

You cant eradicate child poverty by continually dishing out money to the parents, where does it all end?

Hymie is delibreately missing the point.

I don't understand why anybody would think it is acceptable for people to be rewarded by the taxpayer for choosing to have more than two kids. Put it another way, if somebody with two kids decided to have a third and went to their boss and asked for more money because of their lifestyle choice, I would imagine the vast majority of employers would tell them to do one. I cannot see the difference.

My mother (born 1913) used to say "Poor children have no shoes." Definitions of poverty have changed.

BUT:-

So have methods of birth control.  If you can't afford more than 2 children - don't have them. (Exceptions, naturally, when No.2 child turns out to be unexpected twins or No.1 is triplets etc..)

The only aspect on which I'd agree with Hymie is that it's not the children's fault they they get born into a family that can't afford them. But would bunging the parents another £17 a week for each child mean the child would not be in poverty or could the money be wasted on the parents

//It has been estimated that scrapping it would cost around £3bn.//

Where do these rebels suggest the money should come from?

Question Author

Naomi: "Where do these rebels suggest the money should come from?" - perhaps Hymie can chip in!

Lets face it, for many years now having kids has been a sure way of securing an income, and local councils are also partly to blame. If you had kids you got further up the waiting list, the more kids you had the bigger the house you got. In a lot of cases the income from government for the kids ends up being spent on the adults life style and the rent dont get paid. Hence the poverty is in many cases self inflicted.

Question Author

Bang on nicebloke, I think the 2 kid limit is sensible. If people are well off enough to have more then they cannot expect the nation to fund it.
