got the above with domes instead of moulds - lady was fantastic.  This is the first time I have worn 2 hearing aids in two ears (we've only got 2 ears)  in my life time so they do sound a bit unusual but she she told me to give them 12 weeks.  It will be unusual for me but I will do my best to get used to them.

Have they made a big diference, JJ?

yes there is a difference but a funny difference.  Like hearing noises I never heard before - I have only got them 2 hours so it is a bit soon - I hope when I get to the park I will be able to hear the birds singing and then my heart will sing too.

Like when I was in the room with her and after the aids went in I said to her "oh I hear a hum" - yes she said that's the fan.  Then I heard another noise I can only describe the noise of the world outside the room.  Time will tell.

That sounds really positive JJ - I wish you all the best with them x

Good luck JJ - all sounds very hopeful.

Sick of waiting for the NHS I bought in-ear hearing aids on line (£80). They seem very good. It does say in the instructions that you will initially hear high pitched sounds that you aren't used to - squeaking floor boards/furniture, tinkling water, etc. but over time your senses will "edit out" those noises as insignificant.

I hope they are a success but I'm confused.

You've been profoundly deaf most of your life but only had one hearing aid in one ear up until now?

As explained to me.

Your brain is adapting to new sounds, it will settle down and learn to ignore little things.

I learned this after having my ears de- waxed, coming home in the car the indicators clicking sounded so loud and it took a couple of days to settle down.

barry - the audiologists have been wanting me to wear two aids all my life but I just couldn't stick all kinds of noises in both ears.  she did say it will take 3 months for my new/right ear to get used to the new noises.

I laughed to myself - I was putting dishes away last night and the new noises sounded like the OK CORRAL - really noisy. thought was smashing plates everywhere so there goes.

As I have said before you cannot put hearing into ears that literally don't have any hearing but I'll give it a wee go or a big go LOL

Stick at it
