Based on this, I’d expect dealers to be insisting on multiple forms of ID before letting customers drive away with their car.

If you check the MOT history of some of the cars after they've been fettled up on the show (I know I should get a life!) they often fail on numerous points & in some cases are MoT expired - i.e. written off.

I do that, Dave. Also with some of the cars on Bangers & Cash, just to see if they are SORN or in regular use.

Not written off and, isn't that what garages are for? To repair stuff that needs fixing.

Maybe you two could develop and publish a log that we, the unsuspecting public could refer to when buying classic cars or even anything a bit exotic.

douglas, when WD has fixed up a car and sold it on, I expect it to be MOTd and roadworthy (they are not the same thing). Some clearly aren't.

I reckon that there is more to this scam that meets the eye; I consider myself reasonably wealthy (obviously not as rich as TTT), but my main credit card has a limit just shy of £10k.

The other day, I made flight tickets payments using the card, close to the value of £3k, with two method authentication – but the payment was denied by the card issuer.

I contacted the credit card company (and sorted the payment out) who advised that the reason for the denial was that it was for a relatively large sum, and not typical of transactions I made with the card.

So why was the £10k+ car purchase on the credit card not subject to greater scrutiny by the card issuer, and how did the scammer know that the card he cloned had such a high credit limit?
