because we have a post here in which somebody is thanking israel for carrying out an attack which kiled two children along with its intended target. if someone is thanking israel for doing that then it seems to me that it is worth asking... does the OP (or anyone else here) think that killing two children in Lebanon was a price worth paying in order to kill fuad shukr? my opinion is that it wasn't.
you are free to disagree of course but my question is valid. my suspicion is that some people wish to say "yes it is worth it" but don't wish to write it out.
Untitled, it's not a case of being 'worth it'. Children aren't a bargaining tool. The question shouldn't arise. We commemorate Armistice Day every November but no one asks if the loss of children's lives in the two World Wars was 'worth it'. The loss of children's lives in war is always regrettable but unfortunately it's inevitable. That might not suit your particular form of impossible idealism but it's the stark reality.

i think the question should arise. the truth of the matter is that many people are quite comfortable with israel killing civilians in the pursuit of this war and simply push any moral objections to the back of their mind and try not to think about them.
i think if toratoratora is allowed to thank israel for this then i am allowed to ask if the civilian cost was worth it. i think many people think "yes" but won't write it because they know how it looks.

Why odd? Were children in the past less worthy than those today then - in your estimation? That aside, we remember all wars of the past 100-odd years at that time so your nit-picking is simply an attempt to side-track from an argument of principle that you instigated but have since discovered hasn't been thoroughly considered.
You may ask what you like but there's no guarantee it's going to be a reasoned question.
frankly yes... children killed in wars almost a century ago and long before i was born do not preoccupy me as much as the ones being killed by many factions right now in the middle east, including one that the UK government arms and supports and many UK citizens vocally support. i think it is strange to publicly thank our ally for conducting an attack that killed a 6 year old and a 10 year old along with its intended target. The IDF obviously judged that the risk of killing or maiming such people was sufficiently unimportant or else they would not have done it... i think it is worth asking anybody who wishes to thank the IDF whether they agree with that.
