Ive seen 20mph speed limits around schools and hospitals but I haven't seen them widely imposed anywhere else, perseverer.  Have you?

Yes, and have a look at this link.

https://www.blackcircles.com/news/20mph-speed-limit-across-the-uk#:~:text=Key%20London%20boroughs%20such%20as,already%20under%20the%2020mph%20limit.&text=Other%20major%20cities%20in%20England,scheme%20across%20its%20residential%20streets.

Unless I'm mistaken an awful lot of the authorities that have imposed that speed limit are Labour run.  Perhaps they've got a fixation.

//The reduction has had a positive impact upon road-safety.//

That's great. Presumably 10 mph would be even better.

Heck, let's ban cars altogether. Maximum benefit.

All the Scottish cities mentioned currently have SNP led councils.

Seen loads of 20mph bits of road with no obvious reason for it. Although I read somewhere that not every such road is official and councils can just stick a 20mph sign up without legalising it.

perseverer: "My point is that many on AB seem to spend their lives looking for ways to snipe at Labour " - did you miss the last 14 years where the 5C were doing the same to the Tories?

Well, I have only been paying much attention to News threads in the last 3 or 4 years, but I accept there have been some posters who have regularly sniped at Tories, Boris etc.

But recent News threads have been dominated by anti-Labour sniping, frequently just for the sake of doing it.

I don't know precisely what you mean by 5C, I presume you mean fifth columnist, but in practice it seems to mean anyone who disagrees with you, so in this case you would be correct. (I know you always are, you have told us often enough.)

"I don't know precisely what you mean by 5C, I presume you mean fifth columnist, but in practice it seems to mean anyone who disagrees with you" - no it means people who are anti British, in practice that usually means they are left wing.

I recently drove through Tintern and found myself behind a car sticking rigidly to the 20 limit. He must have felt intimidated by my driving because he wound his window down and pointed to the 20 limit signs. When we'd driven past Tintern Abbey, the limit changed to 30 and the guy put his toe down and was gone in a flash. He must have been doing well over the 30 limit then. Funny.
