One4All Gift Cards
This isn't really a question, more a word of warning.
I was given a One4All gift card for Christmas last year, and it almost got forgotten about until I was sorting out my wallet.
Its not a fortune, there is £20 on it, but I thought great theres something I wanted to buy in my local ASDA store.
Not so great news when I got to ASDA as non of the supermarkets accept the One4All gift cards as payment for anything.
So I rang the contact number on the back of the One4All gift card, and they said the only supermarket that recognised a One4All gift card is Marks & Spencer. But theres nothing I want or need at Marks & Spencer.
So word of warning is think before you give someone a One4All gift card, because its not what it says on the card, its very misleading, as its not one card for all at all.
So now I'm more or less forced to use it in shops I don't normally buy things from but put the rest of the money to an item.
I can't even use it in HMV, which would be my next go to shop.
So in short, One4All gift cards don't cater for ALL shops at all!!
Answers
I'm not sure of the point of swerving. All these types of cards are the same. Love2shop is another popular one. They are very convenient and popular with the vast majority people as a way to give a gift - it's far more choice than say an M&S or Boots gift card.
If you want to give someone a way of spending wherever they want give them money!!!
Cloverjo,
Thanks, and that's basically all I wanted to do was to highlight One4All really isn't.
It was quite embarrassing if I am honest, trying to purchase something in ASDA only to discover they don't accept the One4All cards.
It was never about disrespecting the gift. The giver probably didn't realise it wouldn't be accepted.
I wanted to save someone else from this problem.
Names like One4All can be very misleading and shouldn't be allowed to be used. Its a marketing ploy to sell cards.
gingejbee,
Thats a whole different issue.
There is a leisure center near us that only accept cards as payment.
But it backfired on them one day when their Internet was down, and it was causing pandemonium because no one could use their coffee shop or anything.
Plus its sheer arrogance to not let people use cash.
Barmaid,
But thats why we are losing physical banks at an alarming rate. Its a case of use them or lose them.
If we lose cash forever it will be disaster, because technology has a tenancy to break down from time to time, so we need cash as an alternative.
I have witnessed shops lots of times where its a nightmare when their systems crash, or card readers fail. Customers are stranded at the tils, its no joke.
For a shop to say card only is an act of arrogance in my opinion. Cash is legal tender.
some time ago I received those cards and genuinely thought I could use it anywhere. Can't remember what garage it was but went ahead and put whatever petrol the card was worth. Went into pay with the card and the garage said - oh we don't take those - says me - you have to now - the petrol is in the car. Bye
DDIL,
To your question did I read the guide lines, the answer is no because I didn't think I had to.
It was just very embarrassing arriving at the til trying to pay for goods only to be told I can't use my One4All card.
Either they should ban the cards or add the shops they have clearly not added.
Anyone could be nieve and buy them as gifts, its not their fault. But I think if they knew the embarrassing situations it could cause the receiver of the gift they would probably just chose a different kind of gift, I know I would.
I know it sounds dramatic, and disrespectful, but I am just trying to be a realist and save future heartache for anyone else.
My intention wasn't to cause a stir.
