I went to Cyprus this year and we went to Turkey for a day. We had our money changed to Lira as it works out cheaper and is used more.
I'd suggest taking some Turkish Lira and also some Sterling , Euro's or Dollars depending on which is easier for you to get.. Larger shops and the bazaars often accept Sterling, Dollars, Euros as well as Turkish Lira but you'll need the latter for day to day things, such as travel, entrance fees, smaller shops and restaurants.

It is also worth checking with your hotel whether they give a discount for cash payment in dollars, euros or sterling as some do.

Thanks for the answers, think i'm going to take lira and euros. With my credit card, just in case.
Thanks again
Take some lira and be careful when you change either sterling or euros. Depends where you're staying but some places are notorious for trying to con you. Don't let anyone give you old lira in spite of what they might ltell you it's no longer legal and you'll be stuck with it - accept only Yeni Turkish Lira (YTL) new lira without the millions. Having said that it's a lovely country and most people are superb. Have a great holiday.
the above answer is right they take whatever they feel like on the day so take both and they do try and con you when they are exchanging money they may advertise price in lira and then convert to euro when you go to pay and you could lose track of where you are that happened quite a bit when I was there last year with the exchange rate etc also the old chestnut of not having change int he currency you paid in!
