My enduring memory of Sarasota is running into the sea to escape the heat of the sun and swimming in an ocean so warm it was impossible to cool down.
Am waiting to here from friends who live between Tampa and Odessa - heard nothing yet but it doesn't seem to have been as catastrophic as it could have been. - still bad enough though.
I think that even though it was downgraded, its still a double whammy only a few weeks after Helene. Like, enough already!!!

I would assume hurricanes are 'acts of god' therefore not covered but maybe they have different rules in USA

yes, the estimated bill was put at $60 billion before the storm hit but insurance seriously costs.
They can insure against hurricanes. Some damage - flood for instance - often has to be insured separately though.
