It is suggested that “tactical voting” may have led to the downfall of James Cleverley in the Tory Leadership contest:

Just so long as they work on the border problem they are head and shoulders above anyone who has been in power lately.
The problem is that one seems to have undergone a recent enlightenment, and is now saying the right things, while the other used to seem keen but nowadays wants to concentrate on party reform over prioritising the issue. Neither are that convincing any longer.
