It can't help with the supposed 'black hole' until 2029 as the frozen thresholds had already been factored in.

My tips are NI rates being raised at the top end as those on £50000+ pa could be argued not to be ordinary  working people ( apart from train drivers), plus NI on maybe savings income  and more likely pensions income which don't attract NI now as these are generally earned by non working people.

Labour's manifesto stated:

 

"Labour will not increase taxes on working people, which is why we will not increase National Insurance, the basic, higher, or additional rates of Income Tax, or VAT."

 

Fiscal drag is a tax rise - it's a rose by any other name - and no amount of spin or mealy-mouthed bullsiht and bluster from Labour liars will change this, BUT the manifesto does refer to not increaseing the "rates" of income tax, so I suspect this is what they'll hang their hat on. It's weaselly of them, but this Govt is full of weasels.

An example of their weaselly words is the likely increase in Employers' NI - they feel the words used in their manifesto are such that raising Employers' NI is not a breach of their promise to not raise NI.

 

Raising Employers' NI will ultimately be paid for by the employees in reduced payrises.

It's about time goverments were held to their manifestos. If after 6 months they haven't implemented their promises or introduce something that wasn't on their manifest then they automatically lose by default and a new election is set in motion.

I sort of agree Vulcan, on the basis a manifesto induces people to vote a certain way - always assuming people have read them - but they'd just simply say things have changed which mean we cannot do what we wanted to do.

 

This is all Govts - not just the current shower.

I question the phrase 'Working People'.  Someone mentioned it.

Do they really think that pensioners don't work?

Without the unpaid, voluntary work that retired people put in - most of the UKs charities would fold in on themselves. Very seriously.

Churches would close (that might not disturb some people, but they are often a lifeline), Community Centres would close, etc., etc..  Charity shops?

Personally, at 74, I work like stink to keep the bits I work for voluntarily going and also to keep OH and I going.

Beginning to feel really cheesed off about this govt's assumption that we all loll about in some roseate haze drinking bubbly and being given meals on wheels - Oh! here's another voluntary job!!
