eye tests for vdu work

ive just had an eye test as i work with vdu's (paid for by my compnay) and been prescribed glasses, but for general use as well as vdu use - but my employer will only pay if the prescription is specifically for vdu use - is this right - if not can someone point me in the right direction to counter argue this.

Your employer is right. He only has to pay if you need a different prescription specifically for VDU use from the one you need for general use.
