Supermarket Loyalty Cards

Just been watching the news on these so called savings on these cards. My opinion is that there are nothing more than a scam. Why? because they inflate the price of a product then reduce it back to the normal retail if you have the card. If you dont have or want the card you end up paying the inflated price, but most people will just walk away from the inflated price, so in affect they are shooting themselves in the foot. Whats your veiw on the subject.

If my normal brand of coffee has a standard price of £6 at *most of the big supermarkets*,  but my card gives me a special price of £3.50...is that a scam?

I'm not saying everything is a scam, just saying thats its getting more and more difficult to work out a genuine offer. A few months back the powers that be did say they were investigating a lot of these loyalty cards and has it had hit the news last night it appears that some investigstions are in progress. What the out come will be who knows.
