I went for a walk around my local park this afternoon as it was far  too pleasant to stay in the house. Here is the list of birds I heard whilst on that 40 minute walk.

Goldcrest, Long tailed Tit, Great Tit, Robin, Blue Tit, Redwing, Crow, Wren, Blackbird, Goldfinch, Firecrest.

A really lovely walk.

Tilly, I, too, love taking Merlin with me, especially when gardening. Since the start of this year we have, apparently, been treated to the songs of 38 different species, which I find amazing.

With our increased variety of bird feeders we now have a family of nuthatches, a fabulous pair of bullfinches and a Woodpecker, as well as all the 'normal' ones.

(The only one I don't believe from Merlin is a bird only found on the eastern seaboard of Labrador - not quite Cheshire!).

Well, it might have flown a bit further North East. What was it?

I haven't seen a bullfinch for years. How nice.

Is your woodpecker a Greater Spotted one, or a Green one?

Sorry Tilly I can't remember it's name and didn't record it in my 'little book' because I didn't believe it.

It's a Greater Spotted Woodpecker - fabulous colouring.

Looking at your list today, we haven't had Redwings yet, so fingers crossed.

Big fan of Merlin too.  No redwings so far this year for me, sadly

I also like the Merlin app. It is great for identifying birds that you can hear but not see.

Yes, Toorak. I spent a lot of time gazing up into trees on my walk. 😀

I do like the Merlin app, and that's an impressive list Tilly.

I'm clueless when it comes to birds, but am keen to learn. The app is really helping me.

Although my MIL was using it to identify birdsong, shouted her dog (Lily) and Merlin identified her as a long eared owl.
