//Israeli supporters have been advised to stay in their hotel rooms. Police say they are investigating reports of hostage taking, but stress there is no confirmation anyone is missing.

Amsterdam city authorities say: "There is no excuse for the antisemitic behaviour exhibited last night by rioters who actively sought out Israeli supporters to attack and assault them."

Extra police will be deployed in Amsterdam over the coming days as a precaution.//

Israeli fans have been advised to stay in their hotel rooms and avoid wearing Jewish symbols.

Given Amsterdam's dark history, that advice must resonate.  Chilling.

Turning a bit of football hooliganism into something more sinister?

They're adept at playing the victim.

Amsterdam authorities have described it as anti-semitic...I'll suspect there'll be one or two ABers along shortly (we know who they are) who will describe it as anti-Zionism rather than anti-semitic as a way to justify it. Personally I don't think the two can be separated, but we know that some do to justify anti-semitism.

BTW, I'm not a fan of the term anti-semitism, I much prefer to call it what it is - anti-Jew.

football fans are not responsible for the actions of the israeli government and it is a vicious and wicked thing to act as though they are. reprehensible.

Hardly playing the victim, sandyRoe.  The police and the Dutch authorities don't see it that way.

The anniversary of Kristallnacht is coming up Nov 9-10 1938 and we all know what followed, sandyRoe's post shows his ignorance of history and what will happen in the UK while we pander to extremist's

And there he is in all his glory: The terrorist supporter.

No doubt would have been wearing a brown shirt 90 years ago too.

It's really not good what europe has turned into.
