I need one to finish and that is 2 down "Roman road etc."
I've googled with no success. The letters I have are
a?e?a?street. Don't know if "street" is correct but it fits.

Thank you. Where did you find it? Or did you just know it?

Put the letters into this and it was one of several options that came up. If you are putting in letters for more that one word add an extra ? for the space or it won't work. I find it very helpful. Although it is not helping me with 7d and 11d. You don't have those do you? :-)

Ofcourse your excused MacSmith and thank you for the answer. I had thought of Ratlines but I was looking for something to do with sails, as I was - thinking rigging of sails. So discarded it. Thank you again, I have finished now.

I thought 24d was Merry Dancers?

(do not undertsand reference to Fair's fair)

Prospector I had never heard of the Aurora Borealis being called Merry Dancers. Only other name that I knew was Northern Lights so hence my problem in finding Merry Dancers.
Fair's fair, just means someone answered my question so I'm willing to answer one of their's - as in "that would be quite fair."
