What a corrupt system, that allows someone to be pardoned for criminality just because of whom they know, or are related to.

No one can now complain when Trump pardons all those convicted of insurrection on 6 Jan.

they are a very incompetent political party. dreadful.

Trump's comments are laughable given it's what he will do as soon as he returns to power.

Trump pardoned loads of his corrupt cronies during his last term, and will do so again.

disgusting - one law for them another for the rest...

They all do it all the time.

Anyone is free to complain about anything involving Jaffa at any time.

Americans appear to have an odd view of life and how it works, seeming to operate via cues from TV and films.

One does it which then sets a precedent for the next president. In fact they probably feel obliged to help out friends & relatives while they can. It doesn't set a good example.

Seems wrong....is it better or worse than our honours system though? I don't see we can change anything re US presidential pardons and it doesn't affect me so maybe best not to dwell on it.

//Trump pardoned loads of his corrupt cronies during his last term, and will do so again.//

"In response to President Joe Biden pardoning his son Hunter Biden, there is renewed interest in who President-elect Donald Trump pardoned previously.
During Trump's four years at the White House, from January 20, 2017, to January 20, 2021, he granted 237 acts of clemency: 143 pardons and 94 commutations.
Only two other presidents since 1900—George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush—granted fewer acts of clemency than Trump, while his predecessor, Barack Obama, granted clemency 1,927 times over the course of eight years in office, the highest total of any president going back to Harry Truman, according to the Pew Research Center."

Newsweek.

Well, when Trump pardons himself next year, the Democrats haven't got a leg to stand on. Sleepy Joe's final blunder.

//President Joe Biden’s grant of clemency on Sunday night — an extraordinary political act with extraordinary legal breadth — insulates his son from ever facing federal charges over any crimes he possibly could have committed over the past decade.

Experts on pardons said they could think of only one other person who has received a presidential pardon so sweeping in generations: Nixon, who was given a blanket pardon by Gerald Ford in 1974.//

Politico.

Now Biden can step down and allow Harris to become "the first" woman President, and she can pardon him for the same crimes that he pardoned his criminal drug addicted son for. In it together like a mafioso family.

no difference to the corruption over here......

I don't remember Boris or any of the Tories pardoning criminals. Starmer has. He let rapists and dangerous felons out of jail, after employing a known fraudster and rewarded her with high office. He did however take a sterner line with dissenters and jailed them for to 2 years or more.

When was Starmer appointed as a Judge?

@18.56  ... where is your enlightened contribution to the thread subjectIf you have nothing to say then shut up.

When will TCL stop posting pointless rhetorical questions?

The hypocrisy of Biden- the man just shredded any grain of credibility he had left.

If you have a system which allows politicians to interfere directly with the judicial system you should no be surprised if it is used. It would be pointless having it otherwise.

The US system seems to give its President particularly wide ranging powers in that respect so it's little wonder that they are -  as illustrated - well used.

Personally, I don't see what there is to discuss. To argue that one or other President is more "corrupt" than another doesn't hold water. They've been given the powers, they haven't grabbed them unlawfully, so how they use them is up to them.

The Americans obviously enjoy their President having the ability to pardon his friends and relatives (and even himself, it seems) as I haven't heard of any campaign to remove that ability. If there's any argument to make, it's whether the power should be granted at all, but so long as it is, how it's used is up to each individual incumbent.
