I know this subject has been done to death at times on AB but I would be interested to hear...

1) If you are a believer (maybe had some unexplained experience) what would convince you that there is a rational explanation?

2) if you are an unbeliever, what would convince you that paranormal events happen that our current understanding can't explain?

Personally, Ive searched for years for something out of the ordinary but found nothing. For the best part of 40 years I have investigated the occult, spiritualism, the arcane and mysterious, and all things that go bump in the night. Found zero, zilch, nada that cant be explained.

Has something happened, nailedit?
I don't believe in life after death and ghosts etc. but I have been spooked by various things.

I've told some of my encounters before - all subjected to failed rational explanations.  What would convince you, Nailedit?

No, nothings happened Clover. Just still have a fascination with the subject and been watching a few you tube vids 😁

naomi, yes, some of your 'encounters' are certainly interesting. Its just that despite seeking out some evidence for myself I havnt come across anything that cant be explained rationaly.

When I was a young and silly student my housemates and I would convince ourselves there was something supernatural going on in our house. I won't bore you with the details. I've already written here about it before.

Basically, it's all a load of nothingness. We are here. The dead are sadly no longer with us.

I would never go 'ghost hunting' to places that organise such things.  It's nothing more than a money maker - but I have no doubt whatsoever that odd things that utterly defy rational explanation happen.  I know they do.

I can agree there. Kier Starmer getting elected is a case in point....

And thats coming from a socialist 🤣

There's one!  🤣

There's no one more down to earth and rational than my husband but we lived in a seriously haunted house - and he doesn't doubt that for a moment.   It wasn't nice.

i don't think it can be tested though, Nailedit, or conjured up.  I think things happen spontaneously.

Unsure what you consider paranormal, but I like to keep an open mind.

I've certainly had interesting experiences with mediums and ouija boards.

There's likely more to reality than we normally perceive.

That's exactly what I think OG.  Nothing is 'supernatural'.  We just don't know everything there is to know.

As someone who has literally done hundreds of ouija boards and had 4 decades of experience with spiritualist mediums I would be interested to hear of any evidence.

Did none of the ouija boards give you anything curious to ponder on, Nailedit?

I had one 'odd' experience naomi. But not enough to convince me.

Still have a board to this day and it sits there, never moving unless someome moves it....

It didn't convince you but could you explain it?

I'm 100% with Naomi on this. I've experienced stuff that defy any rational explanation.

I also think (and Naomi put it nicer than me) that ghost hunting type events are just guff, designed to relieve the gullible and the stupid of their cash.

There is so much we do not know.

I'm no scientist but the planchete wont move unless there are fingers on the thing. It simply wont happen. EVER!

And yet ghosts (poltergiests) can make things fly across a room or cause doors to open and close at will etc?

The paranormal includes a lot of religious experiences, literally "denoting events or phenomena such as that are beyond the scope of normal scientific understanding", ie not scientific. I don't believe in God or religion, and I don't believe other paranormal events - I think of them all in the same way.

When you say it wasn't nice living in your old house, Naomi, do you mean there was a malevolent presence there, or just a bothersome one?
