......was waking up on Christmas morning to find presents from Father Christmas (Note to all: it's Father Christmas, not Santa) and the house had been adorned with decorations. My mother never put the decorations up until Christams Eve, after we'd gone to bed, so to wake up and find all that, was truly magic. She believed in the 12 Days of Christmas, starting on Christmas Day and finishing on Jan 6th.

You knew you were a grown up if you were allowed to stay up and help decorate when younger sibling had to go to bed as usual..

Father Christmas is a symbol of the patriarchy, a keeper of slaves, animal abuser and a glutton.

Santa's just your old granpaw guzzling food and drink at midnight, much more accurate for the times

It's been Santa for as long as I remember (50+ years)

I hated Christmas as I child, my mother insisted on a perfect Christmas and look out if you did not meet her expectations.

It was always Father Christmas when I was young too. I would be allowed to open one of my presents on Christmas eve and would always come downstairs to find a half-eaten mince pie, a chomped carrot and an empty sherry glass.

Always Father Christmas in this family, too, even for the grandchildren. They know he is St Nicholas/Santa claus

Always Father Christmas in this family, too. When our daughter was young we used to put a few presents under the tree about a week before Christmas Day; she was allowed to pick them up, shake them, flatten the paper (to try to see through) etc but not damage them in any way. We used to include decoys eg, budgie's bell. If she guessed the contents she was allowed to open it. Hours of entertainment in the run up to Christmas. When she got to about 8 I took a photo of Father Christmas sneaking into her bedroom to bring her main presents on Christmas eve. In those days cameras used film which needed to be used up and the sent for processing before you could see the photos. A few weeks later she saw the photo of  her presents being deivered.

It was santa for me. But then, I'm a yank and everything awful is imported from that side of the pond. 😂

Well I'd like to thank the US for Jack Daniels, HBO, Showtime and Pepsi Max, in no particular order.

Always been both and more for me.

What confused me earlier was hearing the Beach Boys singing about "little Saint Nick" on the radio. How many St. Nicks are there and what sizes do they come in ?

You're welcome Douglas. My ex had the worst hangover of his life drinking Jack Daniels. We'd been on a tiny boat on the East River in Manhattan...he fell off and kind of rolled onto land...🤢

Sorry to digress 10Clarion.

Thanks for the replies folks, even if it is a bit late. Much appreciated.

Christmas is magic for the children. No doubt at all about that. I suppose the Father Christmas/Santa thing depends on which of them your parents used, so you would take that on.

Anyway, Merry Christmas. Wot? Not yet? Oops! 😊
