Long story short, my sister ended up taking me to A&E on Tuesday as i was in a lot of pain in my right rib cage and finding it hard to breathe. Had bloods and CT scan and then saw a really obnoxious doctor yesterday morning who told me that there was nothing wrong with me and discharged me. He made a big deal about the fact that I have a drink problem but I wasnt there because of drink, I was there because I'm in a lot of unexplained pain.

They told me what ISNT causing the pain (liver, pancreas etc) but havnt told me what IS!

Just taking loads of pain killers and a hot water bottle on my ribs.

What the hell am I supposed to do if the hospital have discharged me?

Have you been in hospital since Tuesday? Are the painkillers working?

Have you been given antibiotics?

Call 111 and hassle, hassle, hassle!

Phone gp, who might refer you to hospital OR try a&e again and ask for a second opinion.

I'd make a complaint to PALS. The doc shouldn't be judging you.

As an aside, could be costochondoitis (sp). I get it, not as painful to make breathing hurt. But is can be a ***.

Thanks for the link Rocky.

The doctor was a real *hole.

Im a bloody alcoholic, does that mean that I have to put up with been abused by NHS staff?

Costochondritis is a reasonable guess,it's bluffing agony but  it responds to heat.. Try a hot water bottle.

Another thing to try is hold your breath and try to expand your ribcage ... It's the equivalent of a stretch for cramp.

Question Author

Rowan, hot water bottle does seem to ease it a bit.

I get it a lot, double over, and swear.. My friends are used to it at times the pain can make me throw up.  All you can do is try to breathe shallowly until it unlocks.  It feels like broken ribs.

I'd like a second opinion.

You're ugly too. 🤣

Now then, have you tried rolling over from side to side every few minutes for about half an hour? It can work wonders, especially for trapped wind and the discomfort that can cause.

Feel better.

Have you fallen over recently, Nails?

It might be your ribs.

Question Author

Ive not fallen over Tills...got genuine pain!

Doug is trying to be his usual funny self. But this isnt funny.

I agree with Buen's post, call 111, and don't take 'no' for an answer.

I was only trying to be funny with the first part.

But I dont know what would be different...

Bloods and scans showing normal. Then get some

sh*tty DR berating me for having a drink problem and then discharging me with a diagnosis of "probably" inflamed muscle tissue?

Hospitals dont have time for people like me...

Don't even try that one mate. I'm in to much pain.

Youre a funny guy but there is a time and a place.

I'm thinking broken ribs as well.  Until I had them - I hadn't realised what agony they caused.  If you start to bring up blood then get back to A&E.

P.S. I broke one of my ribs leaning on the edge of the wheelie-bin and reaching in - it's easily done.

My eyes are watering with pain.  Admittedly I'm half cut but that doesn't stop me from feeling pain. But go to hospital and they put everything down to drink...
