"If you can't abolish it .Balance it up .It's as easy as that"
In 2022 Keir Starmer pledges ( a pledge is a formal promise) to abolish the House of Lords and replace it with elected representatives.
The latest contingent consists 0f ex MP's (no longer elected people) and people who were never elected.
He's not very good at keeping his promises is he?
The HOL will be made to enact the will of the government whoever is in it. Its function is to suggest amendments to legislation or just delay it.
exactly right
Did anyone catch the hilarious discussion (R4) about the hereditary peers ( who mostly work, all 92) - who are not elected. Well they are by the other peers.
and the 'others' who are democratical Lords. Hold on, arent they appointed by the sitting prime minister
Little fluffy on the beeb DIDN'T say " are you actually listening to what you say?"
880 of the shysters
various bills have originated in the Lords. No I cant name one.
I wrote to Lord Walton of Detchang who had pioneered the elections of councillors to the GMC and was now saying it should be all appointed placemen and time servers. They also had to swear an oath of loyality to the aims and principles of the GMC ( = no change ever. change goes against aims see)
and said hold it, whydda change of direction? as in you know dismantling the reforms you pioneered?
and he said pompously Ay am a medical Lord and my function is to steer gubmint bills thro the lords
so there readers !
he regularly insults Boris . is it allowed to refer to the current PM as queer charmer ?
oh lets not get into a mimsy/non-mimsy argument. The mods are gagging to delete what they dont like ( unmimsy). Boris lied more than once which establishes the truth of the statemens
Queer - no that is Lord Alli and Sir Kier
davebro, maybe we wont have to put up with Starmer's blunders for much longer if this in the Express is right "Labour MPs 'already discussing removing Keir Starmer' as anger grows over blunders". We can but hope. I think he has overtaken the Tories on the number of lies he has told. We need people in the cabinet who have at least some form of running a proper business where mistakes mean they would not be in the job for long not this lot of ex public servants.
