(I think this is one of the daftest threads I can remember. I mean, look where it's ended up when it was really meant to encourage understanding between the sane and the insane, and perhaps a bit on the side about the poor souls who perished, and that if only people would be nicer to each other the world would be a better place. Oops, I'm dreaming again. Still, it gives people something to do and probably stimulates brain cells and wards off dementia.)
Have your fun. Christmas is a festival to celebrate the birth of Christ. Since there were already heathen festivals on certain dates (especially the one in midwinter when everyone was fed up) those dates were use because people were accustomed to clebrating.
It is still used to celebrate the birth of Christ and Christmas cannot be dissociated. If you don't want to celebrateChrist, the answer is simple - don't celebrate Christmas.
From experience Muslim kids understood Christmas more than UK kids, well,. back inthe 1990s they did.
Untitled //But it isn't "a festival to celebrate the birth of christ". this is just spin that christians used to swallow up traditions of the people they dominated and in some cases extirpated. what we now call "christmas" existed before christianity came along and lied about inventing it. //
Someone told me the other day, that they walked behind you in a corridor and they could distinctly hear the cheeks of your buttocks rubbing together as you proceeded along your way.
😂
Hope all goes well jourdain, God bless!
Jordy, i don't think Christmas being a Christian celebration is in doubt here (although many non-christians celebrate Christmas too), the point is that this (in all probability) wasn't an attack on Christians, it was an attack on a large group of people gathered in a small area together. Did the murderer care if those he murdered were Christian or not? Highly doubtful.
"does that mean if someones birthday is the same day as mine but they are older than me i can not celebrate my birthday because they got it first?"
no, but imagine if you went around calling your birthday "the feast of fripfrip" and said that everybody else who celebrated their birthday on that day was in fact celebrating yours and always had. that would be a bit of a strange thing to do wouldn't it.
