norton 2006 startup scan disable
5 Answers
I have a real problem finding where I can disable the Norton 2006 start up scan- their website was no help at all only listing earlier versions,
I have a lot of files on my machine and it slows things down while I am trying to work.
Thanks a bundle in advance for constructive advice.

Just because some people have their own prejudices against certain software does not necessarily mean these items are poor quality. If you take the time to set up Norton properly to your needs its ok. if you read my question properly you would see I ask for "constructive advice" and just slagging something off which you dont personally like is a waste of your time and mine.
The free programs you mention cant possibly keep track of all the changing threats and as such are worthless to me - I`ve used Norton for 12 years plus and never had any significant incursions. I will not be awarding a best answer to those who dont answer my direct request

Yes, those programs can and do update daily just like norton does so thats not an issue. If you insist on using norton and need an exact answer to your question, here it is. No you can't change the fact that it takes up so much of your time doing a scan of all of your installed programs every time you start your computer. That is one of the reasons I no longer use it. Im not telling you to get rid of it. Also, the 2006 version should probably be expiring soon and the 2007 version may have changed and you wont have to worry about it anymore. Good Luck.
Hi ukbod
There are a couple of options available that may prevent your star up scan issue. You could hold down the shift button whilst your pc is loading, presuming you don't use hiberane in XP but actually turn your pc off every time or you can use msconfig. Go to Start >Run. type in msconfig> navigate to to startup and disable the Norton start up scan. I have no idea what the file looks like 'cos like a lot of folk I use all the free stuff but I suspect it should be fairly obvious. If there are several entries for Norton then disable them one at a time until you find the right one.
