It's for my mum to get in/out of the bath. It has to be non-drill and non-suction. I bought a suction handle but it won't adhere. Thank you! πŸšΏπŸ›€. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

If you can't drill (and screw) and you can't use suction, then the only thing left is glue. I can't recommend any adhesive; maybe someone else can. I used drill and screw, and the thing willl never fall off the wall.Wait for further advice; and good luck.

Approach help the aged (or whatever name they currently go by).

They have trusted tradesmen and will be aware of what you need.

My local council fitted a whole shower unit with rails on grounds of safety cost me nothing.  Look up OT team on council website, may be under aids and adaptations or independent living. Our council even has drop ins across the city. As well as the bathroom I have risers on my sofa, and at the head of my bed, a perching stool for the kitchen, and a promise that if I need more I only need to ask.

I really hope you take on board all the help offered and don't go down the route of glue - your mother could get really hurt.

Thank you, yes.  I'm going to try my council too.

Get in touch with her council, they might fit one for her

ask for an assesssment ( I am not sure who you ask: I got one anyway)

and tell her that safety requires whatever  the fella says.

Thank you, Peter.

Hi Treacle

Have a look at this - it might help. There will probably be more like this if you have a hunt on the web. Best of luck.

Thank you, fbg40.  It's a good price too.  I'll definitely discuss this with mum xxx

I'd be wary of the handle which screws/clamps to the bath. Some baths are plastic, or slightly flexible, and the screws might work loose. I think the Council would be aware of all the options, and would only fit a rail that they were confident about.

Good luck.

Thank you, Atheist xx

//I can't drill unfortunately (I'm a girl!!!) //

Hmm, I think my daughters would have something to say about that, two of them own the toolbox in the house!

On the subjectof the rail it must be screwed in.  Anything else is unreliable and dangerous.  I took my mums bath out and fitted a big walkin shower and equiped it with rails.  All screwed its not difficult and any competant tradesperson should be able to do it.  I also installed a taller lavvy and rails around it (its in a separate room) again screwed on and rails by front and back door.  It's about min you can get away with (She wouldnt have more).

As said above contact you council, they may well help and if not help the aged (or similar) can help with a trusted tradesperson.

We get a couple of little mags brought by the postman, one is 'Tito' and the other 'Connections' lots of adverts for local trades, many are semi retired's doing odd jobs without charging a fortune.

I think it will come eventually that it's a shower she needs so you might as well get one in now.  And I don't mean one over the bath either.

I think the 'grabrail' compared to a well secured, wall mounted, chrome plated, support, is worse than a 2nd best option.

It may not be so stable (as Atheist points out) & it will make your bathroom look geriatric. It will also need the constant cleaning of all its complicated components.

Best contact your local council office.

these worked for me on the bath tiles - but after a bit of time they need cleaned and work for another while again.

Question Author

Thank you for the latest suggestions xx Unfortunately Jinnyjoan, these are the very handles we're trying to replace as they keep falling in the bath.  I am grateful for your hack though 😊

I had one fitted in the shower even though we didn't need one, future proofed.
