Just been outside..  v v cold... couldn't see the moon but lots of stars, some v bright. I see a very bright something every morning at approx 5.30 ish when I wake up, it's so visible through the blind slats and gradually slides out of vision over an hour or so. What's that?

We've seen some beautiful 😍 skies here in DR, I'm just not sure what's what. I'm pretty sure Venus and Saturn are among the celestial bodies visible at the moment.

North lights apparently visible near york tonight.

I just went outside to look, SW Gloucestershire. As I looked up I seen a shooting star! Haven't see one for over 20 years. I did see so very bright stars too. I can always pick out Venus. A very clear sky hear and very cold!

^^^^ here!

I've just been outside again and saw a amazing 'shooting star' too. Magical!

Tonight and tomorrow with a clear sky you will see the Quadrantids Meteor showers that can proveide up to 120 "shooting stars" per hour.

Did you make a wish Tilly? 😃

Thanks for that info Togo 😀

Can't see anything skywards out there tonight.

I saw the moon and Venus early this morning, at 07.00 a.m., when I opened the curtains. There were one or two other stars visible, because there were no clouds. Needless to say, it was frosty, as well.

Is it cloudy where you are Arky? It's quite starry here..😃

Very Cloudy oop here in West Yorkshire, this morning it was crisp, clear and very Icy but the Sun was already up when I set off out in to it.

Aww, what a shame..

Yeah, saw them earlier this evening. There was little cloud for once.  (That's probably why its B freezing now.)

Just a quick update. After mentioning a mobile phone app for star gazing last night. I had a look at my skymap and found it was not functioning well and was a bit glitchy. I have had it for somwe years so realised it needed a possible upgrade. This morning I did a search on my desktop for the recomended android starmap apps and found one called Stellarium. It is free. To avoid using the google store on my phone( too intrusive) I downloaded the app to my desktop and bluetoothed it across to my mobile. Great app and ad free withou the Google baggage. I also now have a copy saved to my pc of course.

Thank you, Togo and thanks for the info on the Quadrantid meteors.

I'll have a look at Stellarium.

Pleasure Tills. Another good tip while you are looking at mobile apps is to look through your installed apps and identify any that you do not use. Delete them to free up storage. Before installing Stellarium, which comes in at 229MB, I uninstalled 4 apps that I have never used and probably came pre installed with the phone when new. These freed up more than the capacity needed for Stellarium. Always heed the warning that an app is needed for the phone to function properly though. I am sure you dont need Candy Crush or Samsung Kids or 3 versions of Solitaire.
