I'm copying and pasting links but they're appearing as text rather than as a clickable link.  I have both Edge and Chrome - same effect.   Any advice would be appreciated.

Using a phone/tablet? There should be a "paste as link" option.

Desktop - and I've tried that.  It's not working.

The link needs to start with https://

I assume this is on your PC. When you right click to paste do you get choices such as 'paste as plain text' and 'paste hyperlink'?

Either way, next time try using the keyboard instead

CTRL+C

The link needs to start with https:// and it won't turn into a link until after you click the "Answer Now" button, i.e. post it.

It happens to me on AB, too. To get round this I C&P in 2 parts.

1. https://

2. all the words that come after that.

And then it turns into a proper link.

I've never had a problem before - this is a new computer - but maybe Ellipsis has it.  I'll test it.

Yeah!!!  And Doh!!  Thanks Ellipsis.

Thanks all.

It must have been the real thing.

(Wasn't that supposed to be coke ?)

Don't copy the https://www. part or if it only has htpps:// that either. Copy and paste the part of the url that is after www. or :// and type in the same suffix that the address bar you were copying had. ie. to copy this threads address copy   ...  theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Question1886811.html         then type in https://www.

Obviously type in the prefix before the pasted portion.

The odd thing is it wasn't showing as a link at all - just 'youtube video'.  No numbers or symbols - just plain text which is what threw me.  Still, sorted now.   Thanks again all.

I think you will find that it only happens on this site. I can copy and past a link on all other sites, on any of my gadgets, on any browser.

I have no problem posting links on AB in any browser using any device.

Strange

I've never had a problem posting links - but when others have problems and I've had a go on their behalf, pressing 'enter' after pasting and before submitting  usually does the trick.

Glad it's sorted ...

I think after the changes when we had the new and exciting emoji facility added something went awry on site with the DNS or FTP Server set up. Could be wrong. But it happened on the same day if you look back. We had a thread about it then and it looks random but wont be. It is likely about location and the different data paths.
