Naildit - I do sympathise, but right now I have spent from 16th Dec, until about 4 days ago struggling with Mr.J2 's appalling illnesses, starting with fierce pneumonia (not good at 91 yrs) and following on with norovirus in the rehab ward to which he was moved.
What I can say - which backs up your point about perception - is that I have had to fight like the she-devil I have inside me to get people to take him realistically.
He is 91, he is ill with a temperature and so rambling away...... instant reaction 'dementia, merciful realease... etc.....' I should add that that he is deaf and of course I couldn't always ensure that his aids were functioning- in the end one got broken...............they all thought he was daft, not deaf.
Through sheer stickability, bloody-mindedness and near-breakdown from my side we have reached the point where he is in rehab.. I have had his hearing aids fixed, he is walking with a frame, he climbed a staircase and descended twice today and we are looking at coming home in about a week.
So I understand, naildit. People don't look behind the obvious. OH was 'obviously demented 91' and best 'let go'. I hope you have someone on your side as I am on Mr J2s.
It is something that needs addressing.
I've been reading an article in The i Paper today about the Sinclair Method for beating alcohol addiction. Have you heard if it? The journalist had tried everything, he was struggling everyday until he discovered this and managed to access the treatment.
Have a look Nailit, if you read up about it you might be able to work out how you can access it and to push for the drug on the NHS.

Hello Nailedit, I don't usually comment but I just want to tell you that lump in the throat and unable to swallow could be caused by stress and anxiety. It's called "Globus Hystericus" but it can't hurt you. I've suffered with this for over 10 years ever since my ex hubby left after 30 years of marriage. He also left our son who has autism. Please don't give in and try not to worry about the "Can't swallow" thing. If you go on to You tube you'll find head and neck movements that help ease the globus.

My niece is very much overweight.
Been in some pain which was put down to her weight .
After insisting on tests, she was found to have ovarian cancer. She will be in surgery next week. If my family hadnt pressed for tests she would have been left to it and die.
Ozzy, as per my OP, I dont expect (or want) sympathy.
Just trying to sought my health issues out without EVERYTHING been put down to my alcohol addiction.
If my nose dropped off it would be put down to my alcohol intake.
It pee's me off because Ive had friends in the past who have died from preventable causes but becase they wher drink/drug users were just dismissed.
