We are going down faster than a mono ped doing the okey cokey. How far must we fall before the PM takes action? Clearly the chancellor is clueless.

No surprise. Totally out of their depth.

Reeves and Foghorn Rayner will go.

//Six months after Starmer entered Downing Street, his gaffes and inexcusable policy platform show no sign of slowing down. Despite this, will 2025 be the year that Starmer takes control of the country? The answer to that is obviously No, but it may be the year that he decides enough is enough within his own party.

Despite his lack of ability as a politician, he is certainly one at heart and he will throw anyone else under the bus to retain power. By the end of the year, will Rachel Reeves and Angela Rayner still sit in cabinet? Or will further blunders and failures lead to Starmer having to axe his allies? I think the smart money will be on the latter, given the state of the UK economy and the continuing slide in his party’s reputation.
2025 will see a monumental divergence between the US and the rest of the Western world. As the UK and Europe align ever closer, Trump’s first months will prove humiliating for those established leaders who have wrecked economies and prolonged geopolitical crises.//

//

"No one should be under any doubt that meeting the fiscal rules is non-negotiable and the government will have an iron grip on the public finances."

It added that Chancellor Rachel Reeves would "leave no stone unturned in her determination to deliver economic growth and fight for working people".//

The rest of you better hunker down - it's gonna be a rough ride.

The GB Pound to the Euro today is 0.83 (1.192) which is exactly what it was last Summer. I'm not sure what is meant by 'plummeting'.

^Probably agaisnt the benchmark US Dollar?

In the op link.

//The pound continued to fall on Thursday, slipping by 0.9% to $1.226 against the dollar, and borrowing costs rose further.//

I think it's really that the dollar is strengthening - probably in anticipation of the coming Trump administration- which is putting pressure on the pound, euro & yen.

I'm the last person to support Reeves, but I can't see she is to blame for that.

Question Author

The pound is falling because Rachekl from Complaints is printing wads of cash. QE simply waters down all the other pounds, thus they fall. Add to that all the other inflationary pressures she has inflicted on the system and this is where we are. The EUSSR is doing similar with the EURO hence that is also falling against the dollar. On july 3rd we had the fastest growing economy in the G7. If she'd have sat on her hands and done nothing the UK economy would be progressing nicely. Interest rates and inflation would be falling. Now? Quite the opposite.

Is it time to think the unthinkable?

Who could make the approach to the King to throw out this government and replace it with a government of national unity?

If he wouldn't have it then an approach to Andrew, with Charles being invited to step down.

Something must be done.

Question Author

11:48 Whilst in theory the king can disolve parliament off his own bat it's not going to happen, we are stuck with this shower for 4 years minimum.

Question Author

....and Andrew is 8th in line, if Charles went it would be William that accedes.

Do you actually think that this is a time for such an approach sandy?I didnt have you down as a Royalist to be honest with you.Welcome aboard.

sandy: While he's at it he should make at least a comment on the giving away of the Chagos Islands as he's supposed to be head of the Commomwealth, not to mention something about the grooming gang scandal which has blighted 'his' country.

I was brought to respect the Monarchy, but I'm lately having my doubts.

(Sorry to go off piste TTT)

What has this to do with the monarchy - least of all Andrew who is a mere ninth in the line of succession?

Question Author

I think sandy is suggesting that the King step in and disolve parliament.

Question Author

dissolve!

I know what he's suggesting but where Andrew comes into it is a mystery.   Complete nonsense.

Question Author

That puzzled me too I can only assume that sandy thinks Andrew is next in line and that the king can somehow be displaced if he does not dissolve parliament. It seems a bit early but I think he's been on the sherbet!

It's certainly very odd.
