I. Out of touch what younger people want or need regarding gifts for big birthdays.

I have both male and female turning 40  in a few months.

Any suggestions or ideas going, please.

I've also a female 70th and 10th but I'm more up to date with ideas for those.

Thanks

How much do you want to spend?

I also am in the  same quandary. One of my sons turns 40 soon. I was thinking of a luxury ballpoint and rollerball set, he is a very artistic boy ( boy ?) and doodles a lot with his daughter and niece and nephew. my daughter is not impressed with my idea. Any opinions ? I was planning onspending around 100€

At 40 people like an experience gift. An Afternoon Tea or Spa voucher at a nice hotel: or a go in a flying simulator: or a meal at a rooftop restaurant.
If you're looking for a less expensive option then an unusual vase with flowers: or a novelty USB power pack.

Samurasian - how about a box of Rotring needle-pens? plus a block of Hahnemuhle paper (v. expensive for their heavyweight paper but beautiful to draw on). I use the paper on my drawings.....but a Copic needle pen as they erode down quicker than Rotring - this helps for a 'textural' effect.

My husband has just had a big birthday and he got vouchers for a couple if nice restaurants/bistros which we are really looking forward to using.

Thanks all.

I'm thinking up to £150 each gift.

The afternoon tea would suit the 70 yr old..so a good suggestion making it for 2 or 3 people would allow the lady to take a couple of friends..

The 40 yr olds male and female are not so easy..husband and wife..something to do together...'he' has active hobbies 'she' not so..

They have a favorite restraunt..I'd hoped to avoid that easy route.

Thinking cap still on for that one..

How about tickets for a London show, or theatre vouchers so they can choose which one. Or a sporting event.
Or an annual subscription to something they might enjoy.
Or a voucher to go racing with a hospitality package.
