Get in under the eaves I think.

Any suggestions as to how to deter them?

Deterring them now they are in is nigh on impossible.  I would suggest you get a pest controller out who will set traps for them.  You need to deal with it because they do SO much damage.  They might look cute but they are basically rats with good PR.

Block the entrance ?

Air pistol and patience.

A friend of ours took a shotgun to them.  Not to be recommended.

^^^ similar to Jasper Carrot getting rid of a mole!!

Although Jasper did visit a dermatologist in the end. 😀

We had squirrels a while back - managed to get through the 'plastic' soffits and facias.  They'd made a huge nest in the loft.  The gap was fixed with some metalwork and the 'squirminator' set the traps.

Not sure, but I believe if you do trap a squirrel, by law it must be despatched, not released back in the wild.

"Squirrels in the loft"? Better than 'Bats in the belfry', Canary 😉

Yup, rats so shoot it or trap it.  Like other rodents they will use your loft as a bog and chew through insulation and your wires.

And dont release it back in the Wild, the immigrant grey squirrel is a real problem in the UK.

'Squirrels have a strong sense of smell, which they use to find food sources and shelter. You can repel squirrels using scents they hate such as, capsaicin, white vinegar, peppermint oil, coffee grounds, cinnamon, predator urine, garlic, dryer sheets, Irish Spring bar soap, and rosemary.'

How you collect 'predator urine' it doesn't say & as for 'Irish Spring bar soap' I'm at a loss. The others might help though.

Also you can buy cat and dog repellents which come in granule form, which I'm sure will work for squirrels too.

You wont be able to repell them in a loft its too big.

Treat them the saem way you would treat Roland.

Thank you for your responses.  The light solution has worked so far (Item 3 under Buenchico's link), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
