Should Holocaust Memorial Day Be Boycotted?

//A British Islamic organization that is linked to Iran and has consultative status with the U.N. Economic and Social Council is calling for a boycott of the U.K.’s Holocaust Memorial Day.

It is “morally unacceptable” that the war against Hamas in Gaza is not considered a genocide alongside the Holocaust, the London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission wrote in a letter it sent to 460 town halls and educational centers in the United Kingdom.//

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked in Britain on 27 January - this year 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz - and in my opinion cannot be compared in any way to the war in Gaza.  As a human rights group, their time would be more usefully spent in lobbying Hamas to release the Israeli hostages it still holds - but I'd hazard a guess they're not doing it.

No, absolutely not - in answer to the O.P..

OH visited one of the concentration camps when he was in the army and marching up and down defending our side of the Iron Curtain.  He's told me about it - before it all got sanitised.

They certainly have the right to call for a boycott. But to expect it to be implemented is naive to put it politely. As naomi states, their time could be much better employed.

ynnafmymi: "Yes,just imagine bringing our friends from Ireland along. The Irish people, the Irish government, the IRA"freedom fighters"were all allied with Hitlers Nazis.Bastrads." - their president actually signed the book of condolence for Hitler.

"their president actually signed the book of condolence for Hitler"

That appears to be incorrect,

CORBY; from your link;

When news came through on 2 May 1945 that Hitler was dead, de Valera called on the German Minister, Eduard Hempel, ‘to offer condolences’ on his death.

Despite the popular legend, he did not sign a book of condolences, no such book existed.

Sound like he might have done had there been one.

KHANDRO, the fact is he didn't.

07:36 yep usual nitpicking from the site contrarian. He gave condolences for Hitler's death, that's the point, the mechanism is irrelevant.

TORATORATORA, it's not, "nit-picking" it is pointing out the claim is incorrect.

ynnafymmi, "Yes,TCL is just another IRA apologist on this site."

I suggest you back up that outrageous claim or withdraw it.

-- answer removed --

That is your evidence? Really?

I ask you again to substantiate that ridiculous claim or withdraw it completely.

That is a shocking thing to say to any someone - I have reported that horrible slur

I apologize to NAOMI for going off-topic but to describe me as being an, "IRA apologist" is offensive in the extreme for reasons I do not wish to go into.

DDIL, I appreciate that and I am hoping another Mod might have a look at the post.

Sorry if i offended your good self TCL,but i also have my reasons for detesting the IRA terrorists and their apologists on this site. Not including your good self of course.

There are no apologists on this site - there are people that live and have lived and choose to see things differently

Have yourself a wee break, ynnafmmi.

And while you are away try to learn that flinging offensive terms about to describe ABers you are annoyed with is always likely to get you a time-out on the naughty step.

Thanks for doing that SM.
