Inflation down in December, thought I would report this good news on AB, normally it only gets a look in if it goes up. Hope you can all cope with this good news?

Had this been an increase in inflation by 0.1% (rather than a reduction) – TTT would be pointing out that the rate of inflation had increase by nearly 4% under Labour.

Found on BBC:

"The fall is entirely accounted for by falls in hotel prices and a smaller-than-usual rise in airfares in December."

Gee whizz. Things I use every... well next to never to be honest.  What a disappointment. (On top of which it is being suggested as an excuse to pay savers even less for hiring their money.)

but those of us with a tracker mortgage will hopefully be better of if that happens :)

//The biggest problem in this country is not always government, its the negative attitude of the masses that live here. No country is, or ever will be a bed of roses, add the negativity we have and you have little hope of ever making further improvement.//

Well said. We all remember how you complained about the negativity from critics of  the government  led by Johnson, Truss and Sunak.

I don't think the reduction is significant in the scheme of things- it's small margins and can shift one way or the other based ona few elements often outside the government's control. I said the same last month when I felt there was an overreaction to the small upturn.

Having said all that, the stock marjet seems to like the news today as it increases the chance of a short term rate cut early in 2025. Looking further ahead though longer term interest rates and therefore mortgage fixes are still upwards or at best unchanged as the  money markets are concerned about the effects of the budget and the state of public finances.

Hopefully we can avoid a nasty downturn in the economy.

Mr NiceBloke this is brilliant news.It was just going to happen under Britains new Labour Govt .The green shoots are starting to show after a difficult take over from the outgoing Tory Govt who milked the economy over 14 years until it burst and left a terrible deficit for Labour to pick up on. From now on things will just get better and better and very shortly you will see blue birds over the white cliffs of  Dover.

Mr NiceBloke. In just a few months time. The British Public will be skipping and dancing along the Sunny Uplands, and thanking Labour for sorting out the terrible mess the Cons left behind them..🤣

So jam tomorrow. (Or is it in a jam tomorrow?)

Jam or pickle.  Same difference.  😂

12:27 well, you're the one who looks like a tool when you accuse people of lying when they don't appear to be.

I dont think youngmafbof was querying the statement about inflation falling; he was asking for evidence to support the statements "The other good news is that no pensioners have froozen or starved to death. Supermarkets have  almost been giving food away."

how can one prove a negative?

I don't know but if he can't then he shouldn't say it... it's clearly a made-up claim.

The Labour Party's own report forecast thousands of excess deaths so it's hard to imagine there hasn't been a single one
