Novak Djokovic had to retire after one set of his semi-final in the Aussie Open. He was clearly injured in his quarter-final threee days ago when he soldiered on to beat Alcaraz and did his best to overcome his injury.

He has been an excellent sportsman throughout his long and record-breaking career, which now seems to be drawing to a close. Did he really deserve to be booed off court? I consider it very poor form.

In answer to the OP, no he didn't. He was injured FGS. The spectators wanted to see a match for their money and that was all that mattered to them, not anyones' welfare.No-one can argue with Djokovics'record. He's been one of the best ever. But not THE best. That accolade can only go to one man, in my opinion, and that is Rod Laver, who won the Grand Slam in the same...

the trouble is judge that serve and volley died when they slowed the balls down in the early 00s. The men now play baseline like the women always have. I don't think modern men would have chance against the 70/80/90s etc greats.

The serve and volley style of tennis was great to watch and required much more skill. I must admit I dont watch it very often these days, I find the baseline bashing gets a bit boring, and the incessant grunting annoying. I am no great lover of Djokovich but he shouldn't have been booed off court

I agree rosetta. The men now play the same as the women, dull, bash bash bash. I used to love the greats Borg, McEnroe, Connors, nasty! etc they'd wipe the floor with djocko and co.

Thank you for awarding me BA, NJ. I agree completely with your response and that of TTT. Others also make relevant points. Laver is one of my sporting heroes. I only have two, really. T'other is Seve Ballesteros. I just don't understand what the Melbourne crowd expected from an injured Djokovic. Do they think he chickened out in Grand Slam semi? Come on!

Yes, bad form.  It's not cricket.

Astutely observed, Sandy!

Very poor form to potentially import Covid to Australia. That's why they boo him.

12.26 too right canary! I totally agree!!
