No question - just for information:

//Throughout January and February you'll be able to see a number of planets across the sky at night.

They include Venus, Jupiter and Saturn, easily visible to the naked eye as bright white points of light - and Mars as an orange dot. Uranus and Neptune will also be part of the line-up but you'll need a telescope to see them. Mercury is set to join the planetary parade towards the end of February.

This is a special opportunity for stargazers as the next planetary alignment visible from Earth, is not expected until 2040.//

Thanks, hoping for some clear skies

which direction do you need to look

Up.  😁   Look towards the west.

Good free app for your mobile phone. Identifies all the planets and constelations. You can even move the time on the app foreward to see where  planets  etc will be at that time and look in all directions with a gentle screen swipe. Useful.

Stellarium, can be loaded via pc or from the phone app store.

That link is for pcs, as far as I can tell, Togo.  I've been using Skymap for years on my android, it suits me but there could be better apps now.

At around 6pm, with clear sky, Venus very bright, with Saturn dimmer below right of it, to south west.  Jupiter is bright, slightly east of south, Mars, reddish tinge to east.

I used the pc download and moved it to my phone to bypass the google experience. Nice clean download with pop ups and prompts from google.

Plus it is useful on my desktop with the touch screen doing what my phone can do.

If you look South West  now Saturn and Venus are low in te sky and Jupiter then Mars as you pan South and East.By 8.30 pm they will all be much brighter and easier to see. Uranus and Neptune will require a telescope to see them.

Venus is bright right now peeking through the clouds.

Venus and Saturn will have dropped below the horizon by 9.23pm.

Fascinating isn't it? Just a shame it's so flipping cold out there.

Just noticed @9.43am. It should say without.

Cold here too Tills. Need the thermals on.

Got a big bowl of lobby for later.

I am contracted to do one this weekend if we are not out for lunch. In Liverpool on Thursday for my annual CT, Xray and Doppler scans and a conflab with the consultant surgeon who did my metalwork. Leaves me a bit bleugh for a day or so, but no complaints if all is in order. Our fate is written in the stars.

Well, I can't tell you how you'll get on 'cus it's gone cloudy here.  Can't see the stars.

Good luck with it all. (Excuse me, Naomi.)
