Painful Big Toe

I have an incredible painful big toe. Started yesterday when I woke up and got worse as the day went on. Hardly slept last night with the pain. Also can't move it. Any ideas?

Long shot but could it be associated with my hepatitis?

Gout is the best guess. I had exactly those symptoms. Really painful. As I hobbled into the Drs he looked up and said..."Gout!"

I take allopurinal once a day and that stopped it and have had no issues in years now.

Having a quick look on Dr Google, it does seem to indeed be gout. Never had it before but its bloody painful.

If not gout, with knowing something your history it probably is, it could be an ingrowing toenail, which can be extremely painful.

i got  up  to  pee 1 5  years  ago  bumped  my  toe  against  the  door/  foling  morning   big  toe  swollen  red  / went  to  doc  told  him  bumped  my  toe  against  door / he  said  u  did  not    i said  im  sure  i  did   no  he  said  you  now  have  gout

I think Allopurinal is available without prescription.

Pain- lansop beforeIbuprofen, and paracetamol - Limit 6g Para, 4g ibu a day

Taking the diuretic Furosemide can increase the risk of gout in some cases ... is this something you have recently been prescribed?

not something ive ever taken Haz,

just taking ibuprofen at the moment until i can try to get to see my GP on Monday.

Allopurinol is an effective over the counter treatment for gout but you must not take it, Nailedit as you have serious problems with your liver.

If you can't get an appointment with your GP, try your pharmacist.

Your pharmacist will be able to advise what you can take for your gout which won't interact with any other medication, or your medical conditions.

Try to ignore well-meaning suggestions regarding types of over-the-counter medications you could buy - you need to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Didnt realise just how painful gout can be. Thought it was just like a dull ache or something.
