Starmer has heard al the threats about Transactional Trump ( the transaction is, you pay higher tariffs and in return your country goes bust )
and has decided that Britains future is in Europer and closer ties ( military and econonic) where things are less transactionally oriented
as TTT often says - "foop foopa doopa wibbly woo!"
why would anyone bother to strike a deal with the US when they are such unreliable allies? canada and mexico had a full on free trade agreement with the US and that country has now trashed it. we are better off forging economic relationships with countries that can be trusted to honour their agreements. america is not such a country.

what the UK should not be doing is going grovelling to washington.
China is not only suspected of human right abuses, they also get preferential treatment by claiming to be a developing country. Not to mention their interference in other nation, unrecognised "police stations" in others' countries as an example. One should be very wary of aiding that particular tyranny to expand and grow it's power & influence. (And especially not give away islands near it's sphere of influence.)
