'Fatalism' is the view that human deliberation and actions are pointless and ineffectual in determining events, because whatever will be will be... One ancient argument, called the 'idle' argument, went like this: If it is fated for you to recover from your illness, then you will recover whether you call a doctor or not. Likewise, if you are fated not to recover, you will not do so even if you call a doctor. So, calling a doctor makes no difference... Isn't fatalism a bit of a cop out - as it means none of us have to justify what we do - good or bad - as it's already been 'decided'...

I don't think it is as clear cut as that, I do believe, things happen for a reason, also when it is time to die it is time to die, as if we are all given a preset time on earth, some people a few hours, some days, some 100 years, Why ? who can answer that one,not me,thats for sure.
I dont believe in any of it, all this Karma and fate stuff, lot of nonsense, in my humble opinion!
I've thought this. "if everything is planned/decided then what's the point in...".

But I don't believe it's been predetermined.

Sh*t just happens and we have to prevent the bad stuff from happening as much as we can. For the bad stuff that does happen we have to deal with it. (yes, easier said than done.)
Do you believe we were created by an almighty being?

Do you believe that some people can accurately fortell the future?, maybe dream of a disaster, and it happens?.

If you believe that, then you must believe our lives are pre-planned, which means that as much as we think we've got free will, we haven't, even to you asking this question, and the answers your getting, are pre-planned.

I prefer not to believe in this sort of thing, too uncomfortable.

Lonnie, I don't subscribe to the 'fatalist' train of thought myself... I 'personally' believe we make our own way/choices through life... I also don't believe we were created by an 'almighty being'... but that's a whole new can of worms!...
I'm with snagged on this, all a lot of nonsense!!!

hmm if I make a mistake I'll just say "it was meant to be". lol
if your path has already been set then it would have to be set by someone, and then that persons path would have to have been set as well and then that would go on and on and reveal a paradox that cannot be explained. so no, my decisions are my own otherewise everyone could just stop everything there doing because what was meant to happen would happen regardless. and that is rubbish
