What's the most shocking film moment you've ever seen?

I've just borrowed Irreversible on DVD and have been told to brace myself for the opening scene when a young woman is attacked.

A separate question - I remember reading about a low-budget British film that culminated in a horribly graphic gang rape and murder (I think) by a group of young lads of a pregnant woman. It was premiered at a British film festival in the last few years. Does anyone know the film?

I'm not a sicko by the way. This is work-related.

to your seperate question when i worked in Music Zone we sold a dvd that was called "i spit on your grave" which sounds kinda like the film you describe, i never watched it but on the blurb on the back it was about young country boys who attack and rape a woman i think..
heres a link which has a little description of it..

was quite worrying because a lot of men would buy this!!

and to answer your original question, i dont really get shocked by films, i cant really think of any that have shocked me. Things like The Exorcist i just found quite funny rather than shocking.
Actually one film i did find disturbing and didn't like was American Psycho, definately didn't like that!!
NJOK Irreversible is truly horrific and disturbing, you are right about the attack but there are two other scenes during that film that will turn your stomach more than the opening scene.
That film is the most shocking film I have ever seen.

Actually, I think I've found it. It sounds like The Ecstacy of Robert Carmichael, which premiered at the 2005 Edinburgh Film Festival.

And coincidentally it's just come out on general release this week. Weird.

Another couple of shocking moments:

The baseball bat beating at the end of Casino is really unpleasant.

And the scene in Audition where the girl is waiting by the phone and the body bag moves - I thought I was watching a romantic drama up until that point...
the most shocking scenes i have seen is in the french film baise moi (i think thats the spelling) it has a violent gang rape scene that looks too real. the film i spit on your grave was made in the seventies by the americans
This one's for misjef...you worked for Music Zone? Cool. I still do! Which branch were you at?
I watched Hostel because I was told by friends and the poster that it was very disturbing and shocking, I thought it was rubbish.

Irreversible is pretty shocking, but personally, I think no one does shock better than the Japanese, the end scene in Audition are pretty graphic, and the whole idea of Battle Royal is very disturbing, I think though that my personal favourite has to be Itchi the Killer, check out the 2 disk version...........brilliant

p.s I do like the Saw series
My most shocking film moment comes in 'Fatal Attraction ...

no, not the bit with Sharon Stone crosing her legs,

I mean the scene with Michael Douglas dancing in the nighclub - the V-neck sweater - now that really was SHOCKING!
Basic Instict surely you plantpot, the film Fatal Attraction starred Glenn Close and Michael Douglas not Sharon Stone
I agree with shiznit about Japanese horror-The Ring (original) did it fir me when she climbs out of the television!
You're quite right shiznit - I always mix those two titles up. 'Plantpot' - a little harsh .... sob ... sniffle ...
